2nd Shift* Sheet Metal Shop Lead
The 2nd Shift Sheet Metal Shop Lead is a skilled and experienced sheet metal professional responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the sheet metal shop during the second shift. This role includes leading and managing the workforce, scheduling and prioritizing projects, ensuring quality and safety standards are met, and assisting with hands-on fabrication and assembly tasks. The Lead will troubleshoot production issues, train and mentor team members, and maintain an organized, efficient, and productive work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership amp; Supervision
- Manage and lead the 2nd shift workforce, ensuring safety procedures are followed and high-quality work is produced.
- Schedule and prioritize projects to meet deadlines and budget requirements.
- Provide on-the-job training, guidance, and ongoing development for new and existing employees.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment, adhering to 5S principles and promoting continuous improvement.
- Fabrication amp; Assembly
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to ensure accurate dimensions, angles, and tolerances.
- Operate sheet metal fabrication tools and equipment such as shears, press brakes, rollers, hoists, cranes, and laser/plasma cutters.
- Assemble sheet metal parts using riveting or fastening techniques to create finished parts or sub-assemblies.
- Verify that finished products meet specifications using measuring tools such as calipers, gauges, and tape measures.
- Build crates and packaging for safe transport of finished products using various hand tools.
- Quality, Safety amp; Reporting
- Adhere to all safety protocols, reporting any hazards or unsafe conditions.
- Meet all quality standards, promptly addressing and documenting nonconformities.
- Accurately track time, materials, and production progress using company software.
- Perform routine maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Troubleshoot production issues and identify opportunities for process improvement.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in sheet metal fabrication; prior leadership experience preferred.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and engineering drawings.
- Forklift certification and experience with powered industrial vehicles preferred.
- Proficient with measuring devices (1/16” increments) and basic computer skills (Microsoft Office/Excel).
