Layout Drafter – Cassville, MO
Position Summary
The Layout Drafter works under supervision to create site-specific canopy and awning layouts from customer specifications. This role involves interpreting scope sheets, applying standard base designs to customer sites, and producing preliminary design drawings including footing layouts and anchor bolt plans for customer approval.
Key Responsibilities
Design Layout Development
· Review customer scope sheets and specifications to understand project requirements
· Create preliminary site layouts for fuel canopies and commercial awnings using company base designs
· Adapt standard designs to accommodate site-specific conditions including topography, existing structures, and utilities
· Produce footing layouts and anchor bolt plans based on standard configurations
· Prepare drawings for customer review and approval
· Incorporate customer feedback and revision requests into layouts
Technical Documentation
· Develop accurate and complete preliminary design drawings in CAD
· Dimension drawings clearly for customer understanding and fabrication reference
· Include necessary notes, specifications, and details on layout drawings
· Maintain organized project files and documentation
· Follow company drawing standards and templates
Coordination & Communication
· Work with Layout Supervisor to understand project requirements and priorities
· Communicate with sales team regarding customer specifications and questions
· Coordinate with structural engineering firms by providing necessary layout information
· Support the handoff process to detailing department with complete and accurate information
· Ask questions and seek guidance when encountering unclear specifications or site conditions
Learning & Development
· Learn company base designs, standard configurations, and product offerings
· Develop understanding of site conditions that impact canopy placement and footing design
· Build proficiency in CAD software and company design tools
· Study examples of completed projects to understand design principles
· Participate in training opportunities and seek feedback for improvement
Qualifications
Required:
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Basic CAD experience (AutoCAD or similar software)
· Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
· Basic understanding of dimensions, scales, and measurements
· Strong attention to detail and accuracy
· Good communication skills
· Willingness to learn and take direction
· Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office
Preferred:
· Associate’s degree or coursework in Drafting, CAD Technology, or related field
· 0-2 years of experience in drafting, design, or construction
· Familiarity with steel structures or building construction
· Knowledge of topographical maps and site plans
