The Senior Modular Building Detailer independently produces comprehensive detailing packages for complex modular building projects encompassing structural steel, sheet metal, wall systems, and building assemblies. This advanced multi-disciplinary role requires expert knowledge of modular construction methods, material systems, and coordination between multiple building trades. The Senior Modular Building Detailer handles challenging projects, ensures quality across diverse building components, and serves as a technical resource for the detailing team.

Key Responsibilities

Advanced Multi-Discipline Detailing

  • Independently create complete draw packages for modular building projects including:
  • Structural steel framing with complex connection designs
  • Sheet metal roof and wall panel systems with custom trim and flashing, wall framing layouts with fenestration and finish coordination.
  • Floor and roof framing systems with penetrations and structural coordination, module interface details and field connection requirements
  • MEP coordination including chases, penetrations, and service routing
  • Create comprehensive installation drawings showing module sequencing, crane pick points, and field assembly

Technical Expertise amp; Design Coordination

  • Deep understanding of construction document principles including architectural design
  • Coordinate structural, architectural, and finish elements throughout the building
  • Ensure compliance with modular building standards for transportation and installation
  • Apply knowledge of building codes (IBC), energy codes, and accessibility requirements
  • Solve complex coordination challenges between building systems
  • Optimize details for efficient manufacturing and installation
  • Understand load paths in modular construction and proper structural connections
  • Specify appropriate materials, fasteners, and finishes for each application

Quality Assurance amp; Problem-Solving

  • Review work of entry-level and mid-level detailers across multiple disciplines
  • Identify errors, omissions, and coordination conflicts in drawings
  • Verify dimensional accuracy and completeness for diverse building components
  • Ensure details are manufacturable with company equipment and processes
  • Coordinate with manufacturing supervisors regarding fabrication capabilities
  • Investigate and resolve field issues related to detailing or coordination
  • Implement corrective actions to prevent recurring problems

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Work with Ramp;D department on new building designs and material applications
  • Coordinate with Layout department on customer requirements and building specifications
  • Communicate with fabrication teams across multiple trades (steel, sheet metal, carpentry)
  • Interface with installation crews to develop practical and clear erection details
  • Support project management with technical information and schedule coordination
  • Collaborate with external architects or engineers when clarification is needed

Mentorship amp; Standards Development

  • Train and mentor detailers in modular building construction and multi-discipline coordination
  • Share best practices for efficient detailing across different material systems
  • Assist Steel Detailing Supervisor with workload planning and technical decisions
  • Develop and maintain standard details for modular building components
  • Contribute to detailing procedures and quality standards
  • Support continuous improvement in detailing processes

Qualifications

Required:

  • 3+ years of detailing experience with exposure to multiple building trades and materials
  • Advanced proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, or similar)
  • Strong knowledge of both structural steel and light commercial construction methods
  • Understanding of sheet metal fabrication, architectural metalwork, and envelope systems
  • Experience with wall framing systems, fenestration, and interior/exterior finishes
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings
  • Knowledge of modular construction methods and transportation requirements
  • Familiarity with building codes (IBC) and construction standards
  • Proven ability to coordinate multiple disciplines and identify conflicts
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Strong communication and coordination abilities
  • Ability to manage complex projects independently

Preferred:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Technology, Engineering Technology, or related field
  • Experience specifically with modular or prefabricated building construction
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling and BIM software (Revit, Tekla, or similar)
  • Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems coordination
  • Understanding of energy codes and building envelope performance
  • Experience with steel fabrication and welding standards (AISC, AWS)
  • Familiarity with accessibility requirements (ADA) and life safety codes
  • Previous mentoring or training experience
  • Certified Professional Building Designer (CPBD) or similar certification
